Powder Coating in Miami.

Done Right, Done Fast

If you’ve ever had a wheel painted the old-school way and watched the finish start peeling six months later, you already know why powder coating exists. It’s a different process, and at Wheels Doctor, it’s what we’ve been doing since 2015 for drivers all over Miami.

No appointment needed. Drop off your wheels before 9 AM and pick them up the same day by 6 PM.

What Is Powder Coating, Exactly?

Powder coating is a finishing process where dry powder gets applied electrostatically to your wheel, then cured in an oven at high heat. The result is a hard shell that bonds to the metal rather than sitting on top of it like paint does.

It’s more resistant to chips, scratches, UV fading, and Florida humidity than conventional liquid paint. If you park outside in Miami year-round, that matters. The finish also looks better for longer. Wheels that were powder coated five years ago in our shop still look like they came off the line, something we can’t say for a lot of DIY paint jobs we’ve had to strip and redo.

Our Powder Coating Process at Wheels Doctor Miami

We don’t skip steps, and we don’t rush the prep. Here’s how it actually works:

1. Strip and Clean

We remove all existing coatings down to bare metal. Old paint, oxidation, curb rash residue, it all comes off.

2. Sandblast

This step create the right texture for adhesion and also reveals any hidden cracks or structural damage.

3. Powder Application

The dry powder goes on electrostatically, meaning it sticks uniformly to the wheel surface without drips, runs, or uneven patches

4. Oven Curing

The wheel goes into the oven at around. The powder melts, flows, and cures into a solid, smooth coat. This is what makes the finish so hard.

5. Quality Check

Before the wheel goes back to you, we check it. Color consistency, coverage, texture. If something’s off, it gets redone.

Colors and Finishes Available

This is where it gets fun for some customers. We offer a wide range of powder coat colors and finishes:

  • 1

Gloss : The classic, high-shine look. Works on any wheel style.

  • 2

Matte: Clean and understated. Popular on dark OEM wheels and sports cars.

  • 3

Satin: Between gloss and matte. A lot of customers end up here after seeing it in person.

  • 4

Metallic and Candy Colors: If you want something that turns heads, this is the route.

  • 5

Custom Colors: Bring us a color code or a sample, and we’ll match it.

Not sure what you want? Come by the shop. We’d rather show you samples in person than have you pick from a photo online.

How Much Does Powder Coating Cost in Miami?

The cost of powder coating depends on several factors, including wheel size, finish selection, and the overall condition of the wheels. Additionally, services such as wheel repair, straightening, or extra surface preparation may affect the final estimate.

At Wheels Doctor, we provide free quotes and transparent recommendations before any work begins.

Is Powder Coating Better Than Paint?

For wheels, powder coating is usually the better choice. Unlike traditional paint, which sits on the surface and can chip, fade, or peel over time, powder coating bonds to the metal during the curing process, creating a tougher, longer-lasting finish.

It offers significantly greater resistance to road debris, UV exposure, and Miami’s humid, salty environment. While deep damage typically requires recoating the entire wheel rather than a simple touch-up, most drivers find the added durability well worth it.

How Long Will Powder Coating Last?

A properly done powder coat on a clean, prepped wheel can last 15 to 20 years without fading, peeling, or significant wear — under normal driving conditions.

The word “properly” is doing a lot of work in that sentence. The prep matters. If someone skips sandblasting or doesn’t fully strip the old finish, you’ll see adhesion failures in a couple of years, not two decades.

At Wheels Doctor, we do the full prep on every wheel. It takes more time, but it’s the only way we know how to do it.

Frequently asked questions.

What is the average cost to powder coat wheels in Miami?

The cost of powder coating depends on several factors depending on wheel size, condition, and the finish you choose. Exotic finishes like candy or multi-stage metallics cost more because the process takes longer. We’ll give you an exact number before we start.

Is powder coating cheaper than painting?

For wheels, powder coating costs more upfront — usually by 30 to 50 percent compared to a basic spray paint job. But it lasts significantly longer, so over five or ten years, powder coat almost always works out cheaper. You also don’t have to worry about UV top coats, periodic touch-ups, or peeling seams. If you’re planning to keep the car for a while, powder coating is the better investment.

What are the downsides of powder coating?

The honest answer: spot repairs aren’t really possible. If a powder-coated wheel gets a deep gouge or crack, the whole wheel needs to be stripped and recoated — you can’t just brush-touch it like paint. It’s also not a good fit for very old or structurally compromised wheels, because the curing temperature can sometimes reveal existing stress cracks. We check for those during sandblasting and let you know before we go further.

How long does powder coating last on wheels?

Done correctly, a powder coat can last 15 to 20 years. The prep is what determines how long it actually holds up. Wheels that weren’t fully stripped before coating will start showing adhesion failures in two or three years. Every wheel that comes through our shop gets stripped to bare metal and sandblasted before we touch the powder gun — that’s non-negotiable for us.

Do I need an appointment for powder coating at Wheels Doctor?

No appointment needed. Drop off your wheels before 9 AM and they’ll be ready by 6 PM the same day. If you have a full set of four or a more complex job, just call ahead at (305) 964-7909 so we can set aside the bay time.

Can you powder coat wheels while they’re still on the car?

No. The wheels need to come off — they go into an oven during the curing process. You’ll also want the tires off the rims, either done by us or before you bring them in. We can help with that if needed.

How do I prepare my wheels before bringing them in?

Honestly, don’t stress about it. You can clean them if you want, but we strip and prep everything ourselves. Just bring the wheels — we handle the rest.
